When Kylee was little, she heard a sermon that prompted this question: “Would you rather be happy or holy?”
On June 27, 2026, she walked down the aisle, committed her life to Jesus and said “I want to be holy.” But the thing about the pure in heart is that when they see God – and they will – they will experience a deeper happiness in Christ that they could’ve never imagined.
During Kylee and Avery’s ceremony, Kylee’s grandfather said this profound statement, and I can’t stop thinking about it:
If you are a Christian, you marry someone you know will push you to be more holy because happiness in Christ is a byproduct! “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Happiness itself is a vain pursuit, because there is nothing in life that produces sustaining happiness.
Feelings wane. Circumstances change. Hard things come. Arguments happen. And happiness can’t carry you through dark days, grief and loss. But the pursuit of holiness – by grace and not works alone – leads us to everlasting happiness and joy in Christ! He is the reward, the eternal treasure.
