get to know me
It’s surreal when you take the person you love most to the place that formed you.
Since moving to the States at 12 years old, I’ve visited my hometown almost every year — to see friends, to re-live memories and to sit by the seaside and reminisce. However, I mostly traveled by myself and couldn’t wait until the day I could show my husband! Ryan and I tied the knot last year, and we planned a big trip to my hometown so he could see where I’m from.
We traipsed through the Laines, the North Lanes, along the seafront and the pier, through my home church, by the Royal Pavilion in central Brighton and all the way through Hove to see my elementary school, parks we frequented as kids and finally my childhood home. I’m so grateful for this trip! Ryan learned so much more about me, what formed me and what life was like growing up.
We tried some of my favourite foods: twister, solero, fish and chips, quavers, skips, Indian food, “bacon butty”, Costa coffee, Café Nero, banoffee pie, a meat pie and bangers and mash! Ryan’s opinion on British food changed from “it’s bland” to “it’s incredible.” Mission accomplished!
