Natalie and Gruff’s wedding day at The Barn at Shady Lane was the kind of February day you hope for but rarely get. Full of mild sunshine, soft light, and just enough crisp air to make everything feel magical, it was the perfect setting for a love story that quite literally crossed an ocean.

Natalie, a Birmingham native, met Gruff while pursuing her master’s degree in Cardiff, Wales. What started as a simple first date quickly turned into something neither of them expected. From the very beginning, they couldn’t keep their eyes off each other, and before long, their hearts were fully intertwined.

After months of visa applications, paperwork, and big life decisions, their day had finally arrived: they were getting married! Their wedding was a beautiful blend of cultures and personal touches, seamlessly weaving Gruff’s Welsh roots with Natalie’s dreamy woodland fairy vision. Bright daffodils (Wales’ national flower!) were tucked into florals throughout the day, adding cheerful pops of yellow and a nod to Gruff’s home. Lovespoons, a traditional Welsh symbol of love and commitment, were scattered throughout the reception.

One of the most unforgettable moments came when Gruff, his dad, and a close friend led guests in a heartfelt rendition of “Calon Lân,” a famous Welsh hymn that simply translates to “a pure heart.” The room filled with emotion (and a few happy tears), as their voices carried a piece of Wales right into the heart of Alabama.

But beyond the beautiful details and meaningful traditions, what truly stood out was the joy. Natalie and Gruff are the kind of couple who make you feel like you’ve known them forever. They were warm, playful, and completely present with each other all day long. Their laughter was contagious. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much at a wedding!

From across the ocean to this Birmingham altar, their journey has been anything but ordinary. And now, finally, it’s just the beginning. Natalie and Gruff, your love is one for the storybooks, and it was such an honor to capture the day you became husband and wife!
